Lander’s Corner

Lander’s Corner is an extension of our experience with childhood cancer.

Lander, Logan’s son, is a 4th generation Me and McGee’er. In July 2019, he was diagnosed with stage 4 Wilms, a kidney originating cancer that spread to lymph nodes and chest wall.

From the beginning, I said, “God with do his part, the doctors would do theirs, and I, as a parent, would do mine.” As I dove into research and actionable practices to apply to our lives, I also shared the best I could through Facebook posts.

As Lander has battled cancer, our rollercoaster journey consists of many ups and downs. With the knowledge and experiences gained, we are obliged to share how we can help others, from nutrition to lifestyle practices.

Being Mentally Tough through Adversity

Lander’s cancer is our second significant dealings with the disease for the Me & McGee Market family. Larry McGee lost his battle in 2016, and we miss him every day. We know all too well the toll this insidious affliction takes. When we created the Larry McGee Foundation to assist the families of critically ill loved ones, we had no idea a few months later; childhood cancer would make its way into our lives.

All chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and others are challenging in so many ways.

Lander’s Corner is our way of bringing together foods, supplements, and products to improve everyone’s quality of life. To help individuals take control with knowledge and resources. The importance of nutrition has become more and more evident as we gain knowledge about the bridge between a healthy lifestyle and its effects on chronic illness.

For cancer patients, the skin is a significant topic. Hair falls out due to chemotherapy and dries out, cracks, and can be extremely sensitive to hygiene products. There are so many things going on with cancer treatments.

Early in our cancer journey, I was blessed to receive a box of ‘Beauty from Ashes’ soaps. I learned later that cancer had played a pivotal part in the company’s formation.

I began using all-natural cold process soap, an oil blend for his skin, Epsom salt baths, and red light therapy regularly.

I didn’t fully comprehend the struggles associated with skin issues, especially in regards to ports. A port is an IV access point that is placed under the skin. It can get abused by all the cleaning that has to be done to ensure the area is sterile the constant access to with needles.

We were told on numerous occasions that Lander’s skin was doing exceptionally well by his medical team.

And a seed was planted.

I had to figure out how to get the products we used in the hands of others. Thinking back to the soaps and the cancer connection, I reached out to Keri Miller – the owner of ‘Beauty from Ashes Soaps’.

Her kindness and genuine desire to help others battling this vicious disease were evident the first time we met. We have joined forces and are committed to Lander’s Corner.

Lander’s Corner is an extension of ‘Me & McGee Market,’ its a place where the products used throughout his fight with cancer are available to the community. Many of the items found in there are ones only available only, or at least in our area. The conveniences and comfort of using them created a considerable degree of confidence.

We are proud to be creating a product line in honor of Lander called “Rednal.” – Lander spelled backward, which is significant for us in looking back and sharing what has helped us.

Rednal Skin Oil is a blend of high-quality oils that were used during treatment but is now conveniently available in one bottle.

3 Foods to Avoid

While there is a physical component to Lander’s Corner, there is also a significant emphasis on education and awareness. We make videos of lifestyle as well as interview specialists the help give important information. These videos are posted on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Digestive issues are another widespread hardship to deal with for cancer patients. Constipation is one we personally delt within Lander’s experience. Vincristine is a chemo drug he was on that slowed the bowels and led to compaction.

The microbiome, enzymes, magnesium, to name a few play essential roles in easing the difficulties. In the videos we shoot, specialists are asked how to apply beneficial things to our lives.

The setting of the market is essential, as well. Having a calming environment to reduce stress is another crucial factor in improved life, and I will strive every day to give the best experience to those who visit.

As we continue to learn, we want to share while providing resources to create a Blue Zone in Arkansas. A Blue Zone is a geographic area containing a significant population with an extended life expectancy and many times based on the number of centenarians. Lander’s Corner is a little blue building at the Me and McGee Market and is symbolic of the Blue Zone goal.
